Russian Defense Ministry to send skiing expedition to North Pole in April 2017

​ST. PETERSBURG, December 5. /TASS/. The Russian Defense Ministry will dispatch a skiing expedition to the North Pole in April 2017, the chief of the Defense Ministry’s expedition center, Yevgeny Binyukov, told a news conference on Monday.

“More than 20 expeditions are due to take place next year. The Arctic is a priority. In April there will be a skiing expedition to the North Pole,” he said.
The Defense Ministry’s expedition center has also signed an agreement with the underwater research center of the Russian Geographic Society and the Central Naval Museum to agree on preserving the military-historical heritage and implement joint projects.
Teenagers aged ten to eighteen affiliated with a patriotic movement may take part in the expeditions on their own or together with their parents. In 2015 teenagers participated in expeditions to two Baltic Sea islands to visit historical sites dating back to World War II. In the middle of December 2016 teenagers will help explore underground quarries near Kerch.
